Electromyography (EMG) - Broken down, EMG means: electro (electric) myo (muscle) graphy (writing). EMG tests are designed to diagnose problems with nerves and the muscles they supply. Electrical activity of nerves and muscles are recorded by sophisticated electrodes and specific patterns are displayed and interpreted by qualified clinicians.
Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) - As it's name implies, NCV measures the speed of conduction of selected nerves in your body. Sensitive electrodes pick up stimulation from an electrical impulse and the speed of conduction through the nerve is calculated. These values are compared to normative data and interpreted by qualified clinicians.
~These tests will aid in diagnosing potentially serious neurological conditions. Some conditions diagnosed by EMG/NCV testing include: nerve entrapments (i.e.Carpal Tunnel Syndrome), spinal cord dysfunction, neuropathy (i.e. pinched nerves), neuromuscular disorders, sciatica, and more.
~Indications that you may benefit from data obtained by EMG/NCV testing include: arm/leg pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, clumsiness, muscle twitching or spasm, trauma (esp. whiplash), muscle wasting and more. If you have any of these symptoms, proper evaluation is warranted. Please call our facility at 828.296.0000 for Free consultation!
